Experts rally behind women entrepreneurs
The sharp increase in bankruptcy rates amongst women has prompted local accountants and business advisers Sage & Co to offer free business support to women business owners and managers throughout North Wales.

A business advice clinic specifically for North Wales’ women entrepreneurs will take place in May. Designed to help local businesswomen avoid some of the pitfalls that can contribute to insolvency, it will be led by Sage & Co directors Clare Porter and Ceri Gorton. Figures from the Insolvency Service show that women are now becoming bankrupt at the rate of 60 a day. The number of women declared bankrupt has risen nearly fourfold in just six years and now accounts for 38% of all bankruptcies.

Ceri Gorton commented: “These statistics reveal a worrying trend. Women business managers and owners have a vital role to play in sustaining the North Wales economy, and everything possible needs to be done to protect and enhance that contribution.

“The pressures on business have never been greater. We want to work with other stakeholders to minimise the number of North Wales businesses becoming part of the rising toll of lost jobs and broken businesses.”

Ceri continued: “One way in which the Sage & Co team can help is to remind businesses how important it is to operate effectively and efficiently, having appropriate systems, accessing the right financial information at the right time, and knowing how to respond to it. These are among the issues we’ll be looking at during the advice clinics next month.”

The clinics will be held at Sage & Co’s St. Asaph Business Park business support centre on Tuesday 12 and Thursday 14 May, from 2.00pm.
